Very proud and honoured to be the winner of the Zilveren Camera category: Art, Culture and Entertainment (series) #zilcam2018 . The Zilveren Camera will be awarded by the king of the Netherlands on the 1st of February. . . 4 Portraits from "My Generation Dutch Photographers" with an analogue education #HdK✖️? Hans de Kort (1963) captured more than a hundred photographers on wet plates. All of them his peers who started with analogue photography. De Kort has returned to the origins of photography, wet plates. With this technique he goes back to the handicraft process, a logical continuation to the polaroid, which he has a preference for. With his 16”x20” technical camera he illuminates metal plates which are prepared with light sensitive collodion. He makes one or two plates from each portrait. ‘It’s fascinating to have everything under control from beginning to end; from mixing the chemicals to varnishing the plates. The unusually long exposure times requires absolute attention. This does not only apply to the photographer but also to the sitter. After the illumination of their plate the portrayed colleagues enter the dark room with de Kort, then they reminice about stories from the past. This creates a bond and is also what makes this series so special. The audience experiences this intimacy between the photographers in front of and behind the camera. The composition is as simple as possible, without any distractions. The focus is on the eyes. This requires great concentration and creativity. This way a fascinating game of light and dark is created. Hereby the portraits gain an unprecedented and impressive impact. Each portrait is unique, straight forward without any retouch. Longlist Rabobank Dutch Photographic Portrait Prize 2018 © Hans de Kort, Paul Blanca, 13-05-2018 DuPho-lid Hans de Kort (1963) legde meer dan 100 fotografen op de natte plaat vast, allen generatiegenoten die zijn begonnen met analoge fotografie. De Kort is teruggekeerd naar de oorsprong van de fotografie, de natte platen. Hiermee grijpt hij terug op het ambachtelijke procedé, dat een logisch vervolg is op de polaroid, waar hij een voorliefde voor heeft. Met zijn 16×20 inch technische camera belicht hij metalen platen die met lichtgevoelig collodium zijn geprepareerd. Van elk portret maakt hij één, hooguit twee platen. ‘Het is fascinerend om van begin tot eind alles zelf in de hand te hebben; van het mengen van chemicaliën tot aan het uiteindelijke vernissen van de platen. De ongebruikelijk lange sluitertijd vergt absolute aandacht. Dat geldt niet alleen voor mij als fotograaf maar ook voor het model. De geportretteerde vakbroeders gaan na de belichting van hun plaat samen met mij de doka in, dan komen de verhalen van vroeger los. Als kijker ervaar je de intimiteit tussen de fotografen voor en achter de camera. De compositie is zo simpel mogelijk, zonder enige afleiding. De focus ligt op de ogen. Dit vereist concentratie en creativiteit; zo ontstaat er een fascinerend spel van licht en donker. Daardoor krijgen de portretten een indringende impact.
